Aluminum and Copper(II) Chloride Activity
Objective: To observe a chemical answer and to record detailed observations of that reaction
Materials:
plastic baggiesmall interchange of aluminium foil
copper(II) chloride solution
Safety Check:
Use the MSDS sheets located at the former of the room to answer the following questions:
1. List two capability health hazard associated with the copper(II) chloride solution:
a.
b.
2. What should a person do if the copper(II) chloride solution gets on the skin or in the look?
Procedure:
1. Obtain a plastic baggie from the front bench. issue three pipettes full of the copper(II) chloride solution into your baggie and seal.
2. Obtain a piece of atomic number 13 foil from the front bench.
3. Record a borderline of five observations of the aluminum foil and five observations of the copper(II) chloride solution in data table #1.
4. Loosely ball up the aluminum foil and place into the copper(II) chloride solution. Seal the baggie.
5. Record as some observations as possible in data table #2 as the two chemicals react.
6. When you think that the reaction has stopped, record your closing observations of the remaining material(s) in data table #2.
7. Place the melted from your baggie into the labeled waste container in the hood. Rinse the baggie and return to your teacher.
