Formal Response to Follower. Follower, by Seamus Heaney, is a poesy that describes the varietys that time makes in human relationships. The narrator begins his description of his aim by comparing him to a boat, with shoulders globed comparable a full peak strung (2). This kitchen range suggests that the experience is strong, something the narrator admires. The narrator too describes himself stumbling in his fathers hob-nailed wake (13). The metaphor makes the father look standardised a boat, and the son like something existence helplessly towed behind him, which again shows the fathers cause and ability to guide the son in life. At the meters end, however, things have changed, and the narrators father keeps stumbling behind, and take place not go away (23-24). Here, we see that the father is instanter obsolete and weak, which suggests that the relationship between father and son has been reversed.
