Latin the Statess study, or lack thereof, is of great interest lately. Part of this interest is due to the complex genius of Latin Americas development as hygienic as to the various theories offering explanations for Latin Americas current state. There has been much debate through the age over which theory is best suited to better Latin Americas current condition and to help improve its growth and its stability in the future. The three theories that will be examined are Modernization, Dependency, and Corporatism.
Modernization theory developed from the fusion of cardinal ideas about social change proposed by Max weber and Augustus Comte in the nineteenth century. Webers idea was wintry conception of traditional versus modern, while Comtes idea was a theory of social evolution in which modern smart target was the culmination of a series of states in human development from a traditional society (Klaren 9). By the mid-twentieth century these deuce ideas combined fused to form the Stages of Growth theory, which would become the internality of modernization theory. This theory proposed that all societies were alike at the traditional stage and that eventually they would pass through the same set of changes that had led the West to the modern stage.



There are two primary areas on which this theory focuses in order for a society to become modern: institutions and values. In order for a society to reach modern status it has to develop unused institutions such as political parties and bureaucracies. In addition, traditional societies dumbfound to develop modern values which focus more on large division of labor and increased mobility coupled with man-to-man achievement rather than on traditional values which focuses on little division of labor and all encompassing interpersonal relationships (Klaren 10). There is debate over which area is more pregnant but they both still play key roles in modernization.
