My division which is the 101stairborne division was activated today. My location is at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana.

The original commander Major oecumenical William c. Lee promised me and all told of the other new recruits that our division has no history, just it has a Rendezvous with destiny.

We went dressing to Fort Bragg, North Carolina that’s w here I am obligation now. I just got orders that we are getting transferred oversea. I was ablaze and nervous. I have been waiting to go overseas since that is what I am supposed to be doing. Knowing that our missions are way out to be very dangerous makes me nervous about sledding overseas though.
August 18, 1943
We arrived in England; we will be quartered in Wiltshire, or Berkshire. As soon as we got there it was precipitate and I never really liked the rain at all. So I guess we will be here until we hear of something else or unless we our going to invade somewhere.
June 5, 1944
Today is a big day for me. Tomorrow I will in all probability see my first action. I don’t fare that much of our plans or where we are getting dropped off alone I am ready for tomorrow.
The list of stuff I will have on while jumping is a very long list. I will have single jump suit, boots, gloves, main parachute, reserve parachute, rifle, 45 automatic pistol, take advantage knife, jump knife, hunting knife, machete, belt, two bandoleers, two cans of machine submarine ammunition, 1 hawking mine, 4 blocks of TNT, 1 entrenching tool, 3 first aid kits, 2 morphine needles, gas mask, canteen of water, 6 fraggrenades, 1 gamin grenade, 1 orange and red spate grenades, blanket, raincoat, 1 change of socks and underwear, 1 helmet, and 2 packs of cigarettes. All unneurotic it is a total weight of one hundred twenty five pounds.
